Director of Engineering - Management Solutions, TippingPoint Technologies   May 2001 – June 2008

TippingPoint is the leading provider of network-based Intrusion Prevention Systems

á     Director of Engineering - Management Solutions organization. Responsible for Security Management Server, Network Quarantine, Unified Management Framework, and Security Policy Model Management.

á     Serving on 6-person Corporate Architecture Team, along with Chief Architect, responsible for TippingPoint technical strategies, and overall architecture of product offerings.

á     Primary participant in evaluation of NAC technology acquisition, and integration of Roving Planet team into TippingPoint, acquired 12/2006, and based in Denver, CO.

á     Designed Network Quarantine Application product line. Received a nomination for Innovator of the Year for this products innovative use of scripting to support custom actions.

á     Development manager of teams building VPN, Firewall, and IPS management on newly defined UTM devices, known as X-Family. Successfully hired 80% of the team that shapes this organization. The processes put in place for my development teams are now being used successfully throughout engineering.

á     At request from the CEO, transferred to the Management Solutions group. TippingPoint wanted to win NSS Gold and this would not be successful with the current Management Console; TippingPoint won the very first NSS Gold award for IPS, and the product enhancements enabled sales to the largest fortune 500 companies in volume. Since then, the Management Console has been labeled ÒBest of BreedÓ management for IPS.

á     Requirement gathering/definition for the first IPS in the world. Designed policy model, management framework, and embedded HTTPS web application for device management. Embedded C/C++ programming on VxWorks OS to implement IPS.


CTO/Co-founder, ProjectMine.com                                          April 2000 – May 2001

ProjectMine.com was an online Marketplace linking People with Projects with Independent Service Providers

á     Experienced ground up business development.

á     Completely defined every aspect of the web site application and built small team to develop; entire web site was up and running in only 6 months.

á     High volume relational database development for Telecommunication Call Detail Records using PL/SQL and C++.

Director of Software Development, Pragma Systems            August 1996 - March 1999

Private company producing Telnet and SSH solutions for MS Windows

á     Managed full life cycle development for Pragma Telnet Server, and Client Suite; requirement gathering, QA, development, support, and participated in much of the marketing to sale the products.

á     Developed processes for managing software development lifecycle using Agile methods and generated ability to release product updates at the customer request, while still continuing main line feature development.

á     Contributions made to Pragma products enabled a 1000% increase in revenue growth over the 3 years.

á     Pragma Systems continues to grow on that success, and IÕm highly recommended by the CEO.

Interactive Television Systems for Hospitals

á     Developed a print router for directing in room requests to appropriate Nurse station printers throughout a Hospital.

á     Developed interfaces for interacting with Hospital billing systems, to enable charges for interactive video.

Contracting Engineer, IBM Austin                                            May 1991 – April 1995

Computer Manufacturer, Software Development, and Professional Services

á     Developer on WABI project, developing Instruction Set Translation Engine to allow MS DOS/Windows to run on RISC and Power PC CPUÕs. I developed the DOS Protect Mode Interface (DPMI) drivers for supporting upper memory access; 18 month contract.

á     Developer on OS/2 port of IBM LAN NetView, developing functional and unit tests for the Management API; 1 year contract.

á     Worked as tool-smith developer and build guy for DCE port to OS/2; 6 month contract.

á     Support for OS/2 1.3 and LAN Manager; 1 year contract.
